The Osprey Flyer, Volume XXIV, December Edition 2024

Our Osprey Garden

Greetings!

I can’t believe that another year has passed!  In only four short months our Osprey will return to their nesting grounds.  We hold out hope that next season will be better than this past year.  Our foundation is proud to have partnered with The Center for Conservation Biology, Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, and Virginia Aquarium in a two-year study led by Bryan Watts at the Center for Conservation Biology, “Metapopulation Dynamics of Osprey within the Chesapeake Bay”.  This study will look at food stress in Osprey in the Chesapeake Bay.  Science and data is what should drive appropriate legislation that will protect our environment.  Specifically, our Osprey and their food source.

If you want to make a difference, I encourage each of you to contact your senators and representative in VA, asking them to support this bill.

A BILL to direct the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in collaboration with the Marine Resources Commission and certain stakeholders to study the ecology, fishery impacts, and economic importance of the Atlantic menhaden population in the waters of the Commonwealth; report.

The Virginia Osprey Foundation attended and had a table with information on Osprey at the Virginia Bluebird Society’s Annual Meeting in Glen Allen.  It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and network with different organizations and share about Ospreys!

We have been working to bring you another awesome festival.  Visit our website and go to the festival tab.  We will continue to update as we go along.
