Our Osprey Garden

Greetings!

By this time next month, we should be seeing our Ospreys arrive in Colonial Beach so keep your eyes to the skies! We are in the process of obtaining a new camera for our nest, this one will have sound capability. I am hoping we get it in place in time for our birds’ arrival and I look forward to seeing our fellow osprey lovers again! Our old camera will be moved to a new location. We will keep you posted on that.

Fun Fact:

Osprey always fly with their fish facing forward, it is more aerodynamic! Smart bird!

A huge shoutout to Richmond Audubon for sponsoring some new platforms. We have an awesome volunteer that will be starting construction very soon and a volunteer to bet them installed!

It truly takes a village to care for these magnificent birds, hopefully by next newsletter we will have an update and photos.

We are looking forward to a fantastic festival once again!  We have amazing speakers, exhibitors, activities for children, Trolley and Golf Cart Nest Tours, live raptors and this year, the Rappahannock Tribe will be offering the blessing of the birds with their drum and dance team!  We are so thrilled to welcome them to our festival.

We will soon have sign ups for a bird walk at James Monroe Birthplace on Sunday, April 13, led by our Northern neck Master Naturalists!  Stay tuned for details on our website -  https://www.virginiaospreyfoundation.org/

Tickets to the festival will go on sale soon on our website!

In other news, one of our neighboring communities reached out and sent us information on the good work they are doing.  This article was from last season, however, I wanted to share!

The Virginia Osprey Festival is pleased to announce that it will be featured as one of ten events to attend in the month of April in the March/April magazine of Virginia Living
